11/19/09 Flu clinic also cancelled

11/19/09 Flu Clinic has been cancelled due to lack of vaccine supply. Following week there is no clinic due to Thanksgiving holiday. Suppliers have been unable to replenish our stock up to this point. However, we have just acquired a purchase of some injection 6-36 months dose supply that will arrive the week of Nov. 30th. Stay tuned for more information.

There is still a limited supply of seasonal flumist for patients without asthma or recent (within 12 months) history of wheezing who are two years of age or older.

2009 Flu Vaccine Clinics

Last year we offered Thursday afternoon influenza vaccine clinics, which were a moderate success.  This year we are continuing to offer this service.  See other news posts for risk categories regarding who qualifies for flu vaccination.

nH1N1 is most often a mild flu
Many have asked me about "swine" flu, or novel H1N1, and how concerned to be. My response is along the lines of, 'be concerned if symptoms are severe, but otherwise it is still the regular flu.' An article just printed by the Wall Street Journal is echoing current sentiment on this idea. Read for more.

As far as flu clinics, stay tuned as details will be announced before the start of October. There may possibly be two vaccines available. The regular seasonal flu vaccine (remember these strains as of now are more aggressive than the nH1N1) and hopefully the nH1N1 as well. They could not be combined this season in time for release and I am still crossing my fingers that the vaccine will make the mid-October projected deadline with reasonable supply. Stay tuned.

Who should get Swine Flu vaccine?
Some guidelines are being established for administration of vaccine for "Swine" or novel H1N1 flu (nH1N1) vaccine this season.

Vaccines Gain Positive Press

Despite ever-growing and tremendous burden of proof of vaccine safety and efficacy, parents today continue to fear this crucial practice.  Good news!  More sources to ameliorate such fears are becoming readily available for every parent to dig into.  Be informed and feel good about the choice to vaccinate.  A new site as a collaborative with "Every Child by Two" has newly opened.  I think it is a very informative and tastefully done response to the fear-tactics of the anti-vaccinationists.  Have a look for yourself at:  http://www.vaccinateyourbaby.org/  Notice particularly all the HUGE and CREDIBLE sources backing this site.

Autism Links, News, Updates
Recent news brings forward old fears of autism and vaccines, yet again.  This time though, the courts find against the vaccines.  Fear not though, because this case is quite rare, and not applicable to the general public.  For more details, updates and linkes regarding Autistic Spectrum Disorders and vaccines, read on...
