Vaccines Gain Positive Press

Despite ever-growing and tremendous burden of proof of vaccine safety and efficacy, parents today continue to fear this crucial practice.  Good news!  More sources to ameliorate such fears are becoming readily available for every parent to dig into.  Be informed and feel good about the choice to vaccinate.  A new site as a collaborative with "Every Child by Two" has newly opened.  I think it is a very informative and tastefully done response to the fear-tactics of the anti-vaccinationists.  Have a look for yourself at:  http://www.vaccinateyourbaby.org/  Notice particularly all the HUGE and CREDIBLE sources backing this site.

Booster Varicella now approved
In the second week of April, 2007, after nearly a year of research and consideration by ACIP, NIH, CDC, AAFP and AAP, a second dose of VZV is to be given 3 months following the first for children over 1 year.  If first dose is given over 13 years, then a second dose should be given after 28 days.  The latter recommendation is the same.

New Rotateq is safe!

Concern regarding a past formulation of oral rotavirus vaccine keeps the medical community on its collective toes.  The reformulated, very different vaccine under the label Rotateq, is proving to be highly effective, easier on the children and now decidedly unassociated with intussusception.  Read the recent release from Pediatric News.
